Danielle's Scholarship

Dale was impressed by Danielle when she worked the tough task of raspberry picking in her matter-of-fact manner, and he'd insisted that she be among our 2006 October staff. She was hired on to set up for the 2006 season and worked closely with Joanne, Kay, and Steve throughout the season doing a broad range of tasks, from filing to landscaping, to working as a corn cop, and as a ticket taker in the Haunted Woods line, and took each task with that matter-of-fact approach, as if she'd been doing it all of her life, and this was how she worked for us the entire season. She surprised Joanne one day by sharing that she was a Running Start student who was only 16 years old, while she carried herself like a confident 25 year old; capable, trustworthy, quietly sure of herself and truly likable. She finished the season with a broad circle of new friends that seemed as close as if they'd known each other for years.

Being mature and independent beyond her years may have led her into her broad and diverse interests, from photography to speed skating, but undoubtedly her strong faith and love for Jesus Christ allowed her this confidence that never carried over to arrogance. Danielle was killed in an automobile crash February 20, 2007.

To honor Danielle, Maris Farms is making available to members of the 2007 Maris Farms staff a $1000 scholarship. Qualified applicants should be enrolled in Running Start and/or entering a post secondary education in the 2008-09 school year. Applicant should demonstrate the ability to work independently while maintaining a humble confidence and friendly nature. To apply, write a 1-2 page biography that includes your academic, extra-curricular, and personal achievements, interests and experiences. Please email to Joanne c/o Maris Farms between October 22nd and November 2nd.
