Pick your pig, help raise money during the Triple "Pig" Crown series
There will be some "pignostication" this fall at Maris Farms, and it's all in the name of fundraising for a very worthy cause. This season, Maris Farms is teaming up with KMPS, 12 pigs, a host of sponsors and YOU to help raise funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

One of the featured activities at the 40-acre farm - which has become one of Pierce County's favorite family fall destinations for pumpkins, its corn maze and its haunted woods - are the fabulous pig races held on the weekends.

In the spirit of horse racing's famous Triple Crown series, Maris Farms will hold its inaugural Triple &Quot;Pig&Quot; Crown series. In addition to the normal weekend races, there will be three marquee races - The Pigtucky Derby (Oct.12th, 4 pm), Boarmont Stakes (Oct. 19th, 4 pm) and The Squeakness (Oct. 26th, 4 pm). During these races, we hope patrons will enjoy our featured &Quot;big-wig&Quot; hogs - Seattle Suuuu, Boarbaro, SowBisquit and Pig Brown - and donate plenty to the cause.

On a small round track near the animal barn, several races will occur during the course of a weekend day and fans will often cheer for their favorites - Arnold Schwartzenhogger, Jean Claude VanHam or Kevin Bacon, to name a few.

This year, fans can do more than just cheer. Prior to each racing session (3 races per session, 3 sessions per day), racing fans can make donations of $1 (1 ticket), $5 (6 tickets) or $10 (15 tickets) and pick a pig they feel will win that race.

After someone donates, they will receive a numbered raffle ticket - they will keep half and put the other half in the bucket of their &Quot;chosen&Quot; winner. At the end of the race, the announcer will draw a name from the &Quot;winning&Quot; pig's bucket, and that individual will win a prize from one of our sponsors. All donators will win a special &Quot;pignostication&Quot; pig nose for their contribution. ALL DONATIONS will go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Several sponsors are contributing to this event, including Emerald Queen Casino, Adventure Paintball Park, Smith Brothers Dairy, Sweet Kettle Corn, American Thunder Monster Truck, Anytime Fitness and Tall Firs/Regal Cinemas of Bonney Lake.

STAR 101.5, KMPS planning live remotes for corn maze, haunted woods festivities

Maris Farms will receive fabulous support for yet another season from its two radio partners, KMPS 94.1 FM and STAR 101.5. Both stations have been an intregal part of the success of events at Maris Farms the past few seasons.

There's no doubt that the amount of time and effort as well as the quality of promotions those two stations put into our festivities is above and beyond what we could imagine,  Maris Farms owner Dale Maris said.  You cannot put a value on it.

Both stations will again be at the farm during the season for live remotes. STAR 101.5 has slated Oct. 12th and Oct. 18th, from 10 am to 2 pm.

KMPS 94.1 FM will kick the season off with a discount day on Friday, Oct 10th. All who attend that day will be able to buy tickets to the 8-acre daytime corn maze for only 94 cents. KMPS personality Stubbs will be the on-air host for the festivities, which begin at 10 am and last until 3 pm. KMPS will again be in attendance on Oct. 25th, from 10 am to 2 pm. The on-air host has yet to be determined.

STAR 101.5 has promoted one of Western Washington's most popular haunted attractions for the past five seasons, the Maris Farms Haunted Woods. STAR has also been one of the co-sponsors - along with Emerald Queen Casino and the Spirit Halloween Store - of the Tour of Terror contest, which rewards 10 listeners with a special dinner at EQC, transportation to the woods and back to the EQC costume party. Spirit Halloween Store provides gift cards to the winners at an enter-to-win drawing at Emerald Queen Casino. This year's contest winner will be announced on Friday Oct. 24th, with the actual Tour of Terror event occurring on Oct. 31st.

KMPS 94.1, western Washington's largest country music station, has been with Maris Farms now going on nine seasons, helping promote the maze, pumpkin patch and kids' courtyard activities.

The farm is located between Buckley and Bonney Lake at 24713 Sumner Buckley Highway. For any details regarding these live remotes you can go to www.marisfarms.com or call 888-235-5439.
Tour of Terror Contest will be fun-filled night of food, fright for 10!
The woods at Maris Farms in Buckley are no place to wander around by yourself. There's an option this fall. Maybe you can wander around with 9 of your best friends.

For the fifth straight year, Maris Farms and STAR 101.5 are teaming up to provide you with an evening of food, fun and fright with their "Tour of Terror" contest.

Enter to win the "Tour of Terror" package at the link on www.marisfarms.com or at the link on STAR1015.com. Deadline for entry is noon on Thursday, Oct. 23rd, with the winner being announced on Friday, Oct. 24th. The actual night of festivities is Friday, October 31st. You must be 21 or older to enter.

The evening includes dinner at the Emerald Queen Casino and transportation to the Haunted Woods at Maris Farms in Buckley and then shuttle back to the Emerald Queen Casino for its special Halloween Party. Another group of 10 winners will be selected to win 10 Spirit Halloween gift cards in an enter-to-win drawing at Emerald Queen Casino, and they will join the other 10 winners from the online radio contest for dinner, the haunted woods and the Halloween party. The drawing for the gift cards at Emerald Queen Casino is Oct. 15th.

"I'm coming after the contest winners, because they're usually a lot more happy when they enter the woods," says leather face. "But they'll be pretty sad by the time I get done with them."

The haunted woods is located on several acres at the back of the 40-acre farm, which also has an 8-acre corn maze and a 7-acre pumpkin patch. The haunted woods features about 5 acres worth of trails through a cornfield which lead back to about 2 acres worth of forest, both filled with lurking, around-the-corner scares.

The farm is located between Buckley and Bonney Lake on the Sumner-Buckley Hwy at 24713 Sumner Buckley Highway. For directions, hours, pricing and other details you can go to www.marisfarms.com or call our information line at 253-862-2848.

Hang on to your hats and put on your dancin' boots, it's time to have some fun!
The Flo Tones, featuring KMPS afternoon traffic diva, Flo, will be at Maris Farms on October 15th and 29th, performing a mixture of new and classic country, rock, blues and the occasional surprise song (cow-funk, anyone?) from 2 pm to 4 pm on the Car Toys Aftershock stage.

The FloTones consist of a group of veteran, talented musicians who play in several NW bands, including The Buckaroo Blues Band, and Seattle radio personality Flo from KMPS 94.1FM! Flo’s been singing since she was a youngster and the band The FloTones was created to provide fun, danceable music for special occasions, including opening for Nashville Recording Artists Deana Carter and Phil Vassar, KMPS events and private venues.

Collectively, members of the The FloTones have performed over the years at various events including "The Bite of Seattle", "Two Days in the Valley" in Winthrop,WA, and rodeos in Ellensburg, Winthrop, Omak, and Yakima as well as hot night spots, including "The Little Red Hen" in Seattle, "The Riverside Inn" in Tukwila and the "Palace Hotel" in Winthrop. They’ve also backed up numerous international recording artists including "The Drifters" and "The Coasters" and have been part of the featured act at the Okanagon County Fair and Rodeo.

The FloTones have a simple performance formula:

  1. Maintain a high standard of musicianship
  2. Have fun, and have the audience share in that fun.
  3. Perform music that’s responsive to an audience's needs and desires.
